General Vehicle Comments 1996 Corvette. It's an LT4 yet by now you probably heard I scattered my engine all over the track! I'm in the process of building a 355 LT4 all the most trick internals, forged Callies, Oliver rods, JE Pistons, AFR heads. I don't know yet what the HP and Torque are going to be but once I do I'll post everything!
The LT4 was available on Corvettes in 1996. It is basically an LT1 block with a better crank, higher flowing heads with roller rockers and port matching. The venerable LT1 came out in 1992 and made 300 HP with 340 ft/lbs of torque. The Lt4 makes 330 Hp and 340ft/lbs of torque. The LT4 has a roller timing chain and can buzz the rpm's to 6300. The LT4 was basically a going away party for the C4's. In 97 the redesigned C5 came out. Many said the LT4's 330 Hp was deliberately under rated so as not to make the first gen LS1 be anti-climactic. However, we have all seen what the LS1 does with mods! No competition. |
